Curtis

On Love

Interview Transcript:

Hi, my name is Curtis Brown, and how I got homeless [is]…I gave up everything to move here to be with someone I met on Facebook, and it didn’t work out. But through all of this, God blessed me with a great man. His name is Patrick and I love him dearly and I couldn’t ask for no one better in my life.

Everybody say if you meet someone on Facebook, it’s true love. No it is not. The true love is the guy that I met now that I’m with. I can’t breathe without him, I can’t think without him. I know some people say that sounds crazy, but he’s my everything. People don’t understand what it means to find that true love in your life, and I think I found my true love and I will share it with the whole world. [I will]…let the world know that that’s my true love.

Patrick slept outdoors with me. I mean, me being in the city and didn’t know nobody and being homeless? It’s harder than you can ever explain. But you know, when you got someone on your side to go through the struggles and the troubles with you, you already know what God got in store for you.

Being so far away from my mom and dad, it’s kind of hard, but Patrick make it easy. And I thank God for my, my, all my family. Everybody say, ‘how can you thank God for your family?’ But you don’t know what me and my family been through. When I was growing up, we didn’t have the best of the best. We lived in houses that didn’t have no bathrooms. But you know, when God blesses us with the house with the bathroom, that makes you think thank God each and every day for many blessings that’s coming.

And yeah, I could say I wasn’t the child that had a silver spoon in their mouth. We had to struggle for everything we got, we had to work for everything we got – and I thank God each and every day for my life. Some people say, ‘…I would love to change my life.’ No, I wouldn’t change a bit – because it made me the person that I am today.

I see many people don’t understand what it’s like to have a mother that gave you up. My mom gave me up for love. She gave me to one of her cousins to raise me…to raise me to be the person I am today. And I thank God [for] the people I call Mom and Dad who’s gone in heaven; I thank God each and every day for them.
